ÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø

Albert B. Baxter was unsure what inspired him to join ÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø's donor family. Perhaps it was something in the newspaper or radio, he mused.

But upon inheriting some money from his brother, he decided definitively to use the inheritance, as well as some of his own money, to establish a fund in memory of his parents, George and Emma Baxter.

"I wanted to set up a scholarship for students interested in learning more about the sciences and engineering," said Mr. Baxter, who worked as an engineer for Gulf Research and Development Company. The fund was initially directed toward graduating seniors from ÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø area high schools who planned to major in engineering, science and mathematics.

Mr. Baxter participated on a Foundation committee, with the help of several of his retired colleagues, tasked with selecting worthy students for the scholarships. After several years, he decided to expand the fund to support the Springdale Free Library, a place he spent many hours and had served as a board member for many years. Mr. Baxter passed away June 1, 2014.

"ÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø is for everyone, not just for big funds," Mr. Baxter said. "It is a good, solid organization that is in touch with needs in our community, and I'd recommend it to people who are charitably inclined to give it more thought."
